What is wonderings/wanderings?

This offering is a collective open source platform designed to encourage expanded connection with nature and the environment through the lens of art, design, creativity, and creative expression.

It is a compilation of resources and content from various first-person sources, aiming to offer varied perspectives, materials, and tools to collectively enhance appreciation for the environment and the natural world.

We were drawn to develop this project in this specific format with a goal to:

  • enhance collective appreciation for the environment and the natural world.

  • foster community engagement and collaboration through activities and prompts.

  • compile resources that can be utilized by creatives, educators, organizers, and curious individuals.

  • encourage and inspire mindful reflection and engaged stewardship regardless of setting.

  • What is a strategy or activity you have found to enhance your connection with the natural world?

  • How can art and creative expression be a tool for connecting with nature and the environment? How can this be incorporated into daily life in ways big and small?

  • Is there a work of art, music, film, etc that has made you think deeper about nature and the environment? In what way?

Can I get an example?

Content can look like many things, including but not limited to:

But I live in a big city…

Nature and the environment can be appreciated as a pervasive, multi-faceted, and intrinsic element of our world, offering beauty and inspiration regardless of whether one is in an urban or rural setting. Whether through a city park, a garden, a quiet street lined with trees, a flock of birds, a flower, the sound of wind, the smell of ocean, or a vast landscape, the natural world provides moments of connection and wonder.

What does open source mean?

Open source means making media content that is freely accessible to all. Open source media empowers users to customize content to suit their preferences and needs, fostering an inclusive environment where individuals and groups can participate in shaping and benefiting from a shared pool of resources.

In this project, open source means freely sharing and enjoying all content, inviting community contributions to enrich and evolve the project over time for the mutual benefit of all involved. Viewers and contributors are welcome to use content for their own enjoyment or to share with their own communities.

Why a website?

This project currently exists as a digital resource due to its accessibility to a wider audience, lower cost overhead, and adaptability.

With the potential to grow and evolve over time, future iterations may take the form of a zine (a small, self-published booklet or magazine), podcast, newsletter, or app.
